  • Yes! All of El Pescador Lodge’s guides are fluent in English, so you can easily communicate during your fishing trips.

    The guides are native to Ambergris Caye with decades of experience fishing the local flats. Many come from multi-generational guide families, learning the fishery from childhood.

    They have intimate knowledge of bonefish, tarpon, and permit flats and are skilled casters and instructors, helping anglers of all levels improve their presentation and technique.

    Fully licensed and professional, all guides hold Belize Port Authority Boat Master licenses, are certified Belize Tourism Board guides, and operate safety-equipped boats.

    Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced angler, they tailor each trip, provide fly casting lessons, and offer expert advice on tackle and flies to maximize your fishing experience.

  • El Pescador Lodge welcomes both fly fishing and spin fishing. Anglers can choose whichever style they prefer fly rods for sight-casting on the flats or light tackle/spin gear for bonefish, tarpon, permit, and other inshore species.

  • Fly Fishing

    • Bonefish – the primary flats target, typically 2–5 lbs, found in shallow flats and wadeable areas.

    • Tarpon – sight-cast on shallow flats or rolling in deeper channels; year-round fishing.

    • Permit – found in schools on flats and incoming reef waves, averaging 8–10 lbs.

    • Snook – in mangrove-lined creeks and tidal channels, providing exciting sight fishing.

    • Jack Crevalle & Barracuda – opportunistic predators, often chased on flats or near mangroves.

    Spin Fishing

    • Tarpon – both flats and reef fishing, including larger trophy fish.

    • Bonefish – accessible with light tackle, especially in wadeable flats.

    • Permit – targeted with lures or light tackle spin gear, usually in shallow flats or near reef edges.

    • Jack Crevalle & Barracuda – aggressive predators, ideal for casting plugs or spoons.

    • Cobia & Snook – found near mangroves, channels, and deeper flats, great for exciting fights.

  • Beachfront Accommodations

    El Pescador Lodge offers a variety of comfortable, well-appointed lodging options right on the Caribbean beachfront of Ambergris Caye. Guests can choose newly renovated rooms in the classic mahogany main lodge, featuring ocean views, tropical gardens, and easy access to the water and swimming pool.

    Private Villas

    For families or groups, the lodge also offers spacious 1‑, 2‑, or 3‑bedroom private villas. These two-story homes include:

    • Open living and dining areas with fully equipped kitchens

    • Covered verandas or patios with ocean views

    • Bedrooms with private entrances and tropical hardwood finishes

    • Coral stone floors and handcrafted furniture for a relaxed island atmosphere

  • El Pescador Lodge’s fishing season runs year‑round. You can fish the flats and coastal waters any month of the year.

    Bonefish

    • Best months: Year-round

    • Resident populations are consistent, with flats fishing excellent throughout the year.

    • Found in shallow flats, wadeable areas, and near channels.

    Permit

    • Best months: March through July

    • Permit are present year-round but form larger schools in spring and early summer.

    • Found on flats, reef edges, and incoming waves — ideal for sight casting.

    Tarpon

    • Resident tarpon: Available year-round (smaller fish, 5–20 lbs)

    • Migratory tarpon (big silver kings): Peak May through August

    • Found on flats, channels, and near the reef; ideal for fly and spin fishing.

    Other Inshore Species

    • Jack Crevalle, Barracuda, Cobia, and Snook: Year-round

    • Located in mangrove lagoons, tidal channels, and near flats.

    Seasonal Tips

    • Dry season (Feb–May): Clear skies, calm seas, excellent sight-fishing conditions

    • Rainy season (June–Nov): Still great fishing, especially for migratory tarpon and larger permit, though occasional tropical showers can occur

    Tips & Extras

    • El Pescador Lodge offers a fly shop and demo gear for borrowing or purchase — travel light if desired

    • Use high-quality drag systems, large arbor reels, and corrosion-resistant gear, as saltwater conditions are harsh on equipment

  • The lodge typically hosts 12–20 anglers per week, with room for additional family members and non-anglers. At full capacity, El Pescador can accommodate 30–40 total guests, yet it maintains a spacious, relaxed atmosphere thanks to its multiple pools, villas, and open common areas.

  • 23-foot shallow-draft panga skiffs built for flats and inshore saltwater fishing. They feature spacious casting decks for two anglers and a guide, raised poling platforms for quiet navigation, quiet four-stroke motors, and ample storage for gear and lunches — perfect for a full day on the flats.

    1. Fly to Belize City – Arrive at Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) via U.S. or international carriers.

    2. Short Flight to San Pedro – Enjoy a scenic 15-minute hopper flight on Tropic Air to Ambergris Caye. This flight is arranged by the lodge and included in your package.

    3. Meet & Greet – A lodge representative will welcome you at the San Pedro airstrip and drive you a few blocks to the dock.

    4. Boat Transfer to the Lodge – Take a quick 2.6-mile boat ride to El Pescador Lodge. The lodge is conveniently located near other luxury waterfront hotels, so it’s easy to access.

    Baggage Allowance: Tropic Air permits two checked bags per person up to 50 lb each, plus one personal carry-on up to 15 lb.

  • The Fishing Packages Include:

    • Roundtrip charter flight between Belize City and San Pedro, Belize
    • Transfers by boat and vehicle between the airport in San Pedro and the lodge, depending on the weather.
    • Lodging, nights as specified in your package.
    • Three meals per day and an afternoon snack
    • Local Belizean beverages consumed at their bar, including soda, beer, and rum.
    • Use of all amenities:  pools, gym, kayaks, paddle boards, and bikes.
    • Wi-Fi at the Lodge
    • Guided fishing as specified in your package
    • Loaner gear on a first-come, first-served basis.

    The Packages Do Not Include:

San Pedro & Surrounding Waters

San Pedro is the largest town on Ambergris Caye, Belize’s top island destination. With its vibrant Caribbean culture, colorful streets, and laid-back island vibe, the town offers restaurants, shops, and local attractions just steps from the waterfront. Golf carts are the main mode of transport, adding to the island’s relaxed charm.

Ambergris Caye offers world-class flats fishing, with shallow waters ideal for bonefish, permit, and tarpon. Mangrove-lined creeks and tidal channels concentrate snook, jacks, and barracuda, creating diverse and productive fishing grounds just minutes from the lodge.

Typical Fishing Day

6:00 a.m. – Cooked-to-order breakfast

7:00 a.m. – Depart with guide; review plan, tackle, flies, lines, and lures

Midday – Fresh shore lunch or packed option; soft drinks and beer included (limit 6 per angler)

Late Afternoon – Return to dock, review the day, plan next day’s fishing

2:00 p.m. – Bar opens

3:00–5:00 p.m. – Afternoon snacks

6:30 p.m. – Family-style dinner

El Pescador’s main lodge is a mahogany-built colonial-style beachfront retreat on the Caribbean Sea, set among tropical gardens and shady palms that create a serene island atmosphere. Newly renovated rooms offer ocean views, private baths, air conditioning, Wi‑Fi, and comfortable bedding, with options for one king or two queen beds. The Sunrise Suite on the second floor provides expansive views of the pool and lush greenery, perfect for watching the morning light. Just steps from the lodge’s pools and beach, guests can relax, stroll the sand, or explore San Pedro’s nearby shops, restaurants, and local attractions, making it an ideal base for both fishing and island adventures.
