Specializing in Peacock Bass fly fishing, the lodge offers incredible sight-fishing opportunities, abundant fish, and trophy-sized catches. Anglers routinely land 20 to 50+ Peacock Bass per day, with some fish reaching true trophy size. Set deep in the jungle, Agua Boa provides a remote, tranquil environment rich with wildlife and exotic birds—perfect for anglers seeking adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable fishing experiences.

  • Expert Fly-Fishing Guides on the Agua Boa River
Agua Boa Amazon Lodge features a team of highly experienced local fly-fishing guides with intimate knowledge of the Agua Boa River and its surrounding lagoons. These guides have fished the region for years and specialize in navigating jungle tributaries to target peacock bass and other Amazon freshwater species.

Daily Guide Assignments for Varied Fishing
Anglers at the lodge typically fish with a different guide each day, as the river is divided into multiple beats or zones. Each guide specializes in specific stretches, providing guests with diverse and exciting fishing experiences throughout the week.

  • Agua Boa Amazon Lodge operates exclusively for fly fishing — no spinning rods, lures, or bait are permitted on the river. Anglers must use single, barbless hooks on fly gear, a rule enforced by both lodge policy and local regulations. This ensures conservation of the peacock bass fishery and creates an ideal sight-fishing experience in the clear waters of the Agua Boa River.

For beginners, a fly-only policy can be both challenging and rewarding

  • Peacock bass (Tucunaré in Brazil) are the primary target species at Agua Boa Amazon Lodge, and anglers can encounter several spectacular types:

    • Butterfly Peacock Bass: The most abundant species in the river, typically 2–8 lbs, known for aggressive topwater strikes and acrobatic jumps that thrill fly anglers.

    • Spotted Peacock Bass (Paca) & Temensis Peacock Bass: Larger trophy fish ranging 10–20 lbs and occasionally 25 lbs+, prized for their power, schooling behavior, and feeding frenzies that create unforgettable fly-fishing action.

    Other Exciting Freshwater Species

Beyond peacock bass, Agua Boa’s crystal-clear Amazon waters offer a variety of thrilling targets for fly anglers:

    • Arowana (Aruanã): Surface-oriented fish resembling tarpon, averaging 6–10 lbs (up to ~15 lbs), offering dramatic sight-fishing strikes when conditions are right.

    • Pacu: Known as the “silver dollar,” these fish can reach 5 lbs, often rise near camp at night, and eagerly take trout-style flies.

    • Piranha & Other Gamefish: Multiple species of piranha, Characin Pike (wolf fish), Payara (vampire fish), and catfish provide exciting fly-fishing challenges.

    • Arapaima (Pirarucu): One of the largest freshwater fish in the world, occasionally exceeding 200 lbs, offering a rare and epic fly-fishing battle for adventurous anglers.

  • Anglers stay in well-appointed, air-conditioned bungalows situated directly on the banks of the crystal-clear Agua Boa River. Each bungalow features a spacious layout with two double or queen beds, a private bathroom with hot and cold running water, and ample storage space, ideal for keeping fishing gear organized after a full day on the water.

    Private Porches & Relaxation Spaces

Every bungalow includes large front and back porches with comfortable seating or hammocks, allowing guests to relax while enjoying river views, abundant wildlife, and the sounds of the Amazon jungle.

  • 8‑Weight Fly Rod – Ideal for Peacock Bass

The 8‑weight fly rod is the most popular choice on the Agua Boa River and the best all-around rod for peacock bass fly fishing. It offers a perfect balance of casting distance, control, and backbone, making it ideal for driving larger streamers and poppers and handling medium to large Amazon fish. Many anglers bring two 8‑weight rods rigged with different lines — such as floating and intermediate — to quickly adapt to changing river conditions.

9‑Weight Fly Rod – Extra Power for Trophy Fish

A 9‑weight rod provides additional power and line-lifting ability, perfect for casting larger flies to bigger peacock bass, including Temensis and Spotted Peacock species. This rod is especially effective for large poppers or deeper water, giving anglers more control over strong, aggressive fish.

Optional 10‑Weight Rod – For Giant Fish

While not required for standard Agua Boa peacock bass fishing, a 10‑weight rod offers extra strength for larger flies, deeper water, or rare giant species like pirarucu. Most anglers only bring a 10‑weight rod if they want to be prepared for exceptional trophy fish opportunities.

Fly rods and reels are available (in case of breakage) But Not included.

  •  Agua Boa Amazon Lodge accommodates up to 14 anglers per week during its fishing season. This carefully planned capacity ensures comfortable lodging and personalized guided trips, providing an exceptional peacock bass fishing experience for every guest.

  • 18-foot aluminum skiffs at Agua Boa Amazon Lodge feature poling platforms and fishing support rails, designed for serious anglers. Each boat can be equipped with either a conventional two-stroke Mercury motor or a four-stroke Yamaha jet motor, ideal for low-water sightcasting. For safety and communication, every boat includes a SPOT GPS device, allowing guides to easily contact the Lodge if needed.
