9‑weight: Great all‑around choice for most mahseer rivers — powerful enough to cast big flies and control big fish, yet still versatile in tight water.
10‑weight: Preferred when fishing deeper runs, windy conditions, or larger streamers/baitfish patterns — offers extra backbone for long casts and strong hooksets.
8‑weight: Can work in lighter water or during calm conditions, but generally on the lighter side for big Himalayan mahseer.
Typical Setup
Anglers often pair these rods with:
Stout floating lines (e.g., weight‑forward floating lines)
Heavy tippets (e.g., 12–16 lb fluorocarbon)
Large flies/streamers sized to match mahseer feeding behavior
This setup helps with casting accuracy, deep coverage, and controlling powerful runs in fast, clear rivers where mahseer thrive.
-
The lodge keeps group sizes small, with just six anglers per departure, ensuring quiet, private accommodations and personalized service from lodge staff.
-
Inflatable Drift Rafts
Stable & Durable: Built to handle fast currents, rocks, and varying river conditions typical of the Himalayan rivers that hold Golden and Chocolate Mahseer.
Easy Access: Allow guides to position anglers in productive runs and pools that are otherwise hard to reach on foot.
Comfort for Long Days: Large enough for anglers, gear, and guides, with plenty of room to cast and move safely.

The Manas River and Royal Manas National Park
The Manas River (also called Mangde Chhu in some areas) is one of Bhutan’s largest and most pristine Himalayan rivers, renowned for its crystal-clear waters, fast-flowing runs, and deep pools. River conditions change with the seasons: spring and autumn offer the clearest waters and manageable flows, while the monsoon months bring higher, swifter currents.
The lodge is located within Royal Manas National Park, Bhutan’s first and oldest national park, established in 1966. The park is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site buffer zone and is among the most biodiverse regions of the Eastern Himalayas. Wildlife in the area includes tigers, elephants, leopards, wild water buffalo, and over 400 bird species, though sightings are rare, adding to the sense of wilderness. The surrounding terrain ranges from lush subtropical forests along the lower river to high-altitude pine and rhododendron forests upstream. Nearby cultural highlights include Punakha Dzong, the historic Punakha Valley, and, for longer trips, sweeping views of the Himalayan high peaks.
