Estancia Laguna Verde is fly fishing only to maximize both angler experience and conservation. Its clear, shallow waters—including Jurassic Lake and the Barrancoso River—are perfect for sight casting trophy rainbow, brown, and brook trout.

Fly fishing also minimizes environmental impact, preserving fragile Patagonian waterways through catch-and-release with artificial flies. This approach ensures a high-quality, guided fishing experience, letting anglers fully enjoy Patagonia’s world-class trout fisheries.

  The main draw of the lodge, especially in Jurassic Lake (Lago Strobel). These rainbows are famous for their exceptional size, strength, and aggressive feeding, with many fish ranging 10–20+ pounds.

  Found throughout the system, particularly in the Barrancoso River and connected waters. Browns offer classic river fly fishing, often rewarding precise presentations with powerful takes.

Estancia Laguna Verde Lodge provides comfortable, fly-fishing-focused accommodations for up to 12 anglers in a traditional Patagonian estancia overlooking Laguna Verde.

Guests stay in private single or double rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, hot showers, efficient heating, and comfortable bedding, offering a relaxing retreat after long days on the water.

The lodge features angler-friendly amenities, including drying and gear storage areas, a fly-tying station and library, and a spacious lounge and dining room with panoramic lake views, a bar, and satellite TV—combining rustic Patagonia charm with modern comfort.

Main season: The lodge operates from October through April, offering excellent trout fishing throughout the entire period.

Prime lake window: December through March is widely considered the best time to target trophy rainbow trout on Lago Strobel (Jurassic Lake).

Barrancoso River runs: Fishing is typically strongest in October–November and again in late March–April, when large trout migrate upstream.

7‑weight or 8‑weight single‑hand rods — these are the most commonly recommended for the big trout in Lago Strobel (Jurassic Lake) and the surrounding stillwaters, giving you the power to cast in wind and handle large fish.

The Lodge does not provide fishing equipment, but spare fly outfits are available in case of breakage or loss. Guides usually have extra flies available, and they can be purchased at the Lodge’s small tackle shop

Estancia Laguna Verde Lodge accommodates up to 12 anglers per week in its main lodge. The property features eight single rooms and two double rooms, all with private en-suite bathrooms, allowing up to 12 fishing guests to stay comfortably at one time.

Boats & Water Access at Estancia Laguna Verde

The lodge offers motor boats and skiffs on Lake Strobel (Jurassic Lake) when weather conditions allow, helping anglers and guides reach productive shoreline and bay fishing areas.

Fishing is typically a combination of shore and wade fishing on the lake, rivers, and smaller waters, with boats used to improve access — especially on the larger sections of the lake.

Other Access Methods

Within the estancia, guides transport anglers using 4-wheel-drive vehicles and ATVs to reach prime fishing locations and access points.

Overall, boat use is an important part of the fishing program — particularly on the lake — but it remains weather dependent and is paired with shore and wade fishing to provide maximum flexibility throughout the week.

1. Fly Into Argentina
Most guests begin by flying into Buenos Aires (EZE or AEP), Argentina’s main international gateway, with connections from major cities around the world.

2. Domestic Flight to El Calafate
From Buenos Aires, take a domestic flight to El Calafate (FTE) in Santa Cruz Province. The flight takes approximately 3–4 hours and brings you into the heart of Patagonia.

3. Transfer From El Calafate to the Lodge
After arriving in El Calafate, guests typically overnight in town for a smooth connection. The next morning, a lodge-arranged ground transfer travels about 4–5 hours to Estancia Laguna Verde, crossing paved and remote dirt roads through classic Patagonian scenery.

4. Arrival Timing
Plan to arrive in El Calafate one day before your lodge stay begins. Transfers to the lodge usually depart early on the first morning of your trip.

5. Optional Stops
Many anglers choose to spend additional time in Buenos Aires or El Calafate before or after their trip to enjoy local culture, cuisine, and natural highlights such as the Perito Moreno Glacier.
