Itapara Lodge
Itapara River, Brazil
Itapara Lodge is located about 250 miles north of Manaus on the Itapara River, a tributary of the Rio Branco within the vast Rio Negro system. This remote Brazilian Amazon fishery is renowned for producing some of the largest peacock bass in Brazil, with anglers regularly landing trophy fish in the 15–25 pound range. Unlike many Amazon fishing destinations, Itapara Lodge offers exceptional opportunities for both fly fishing and lure fishing, making it one of the most versatile and productive peacock bass fisheries in the Amazon.
-
At Itapara Lodge, most guides primarily speak Portuguese and have limited English. Despite this, they are experienced in working with international anglers and can effectively give basic fishing directions, advise on casting, and assist with techniques. Occasionally, a guide with some English ability may be available, but fluency is uncommon among the team.
-
Anglers can fish for peacock bass using both fly rods and spinning (lure) gear. Guests are free to use flies, lures, or a combination of both throughout the day on the Itapara River and nearby lakes, maximizing their chances for trophy fish.

Itapará River and its Surrounding Area

Its isolation, with minimal roads and infrastructure, preserves the area’s pristine character, making it an extraordinary destination for anglers and nature lovers.
The Itapará River, together with more than 100 lakes and channels formed by seasonal water shifts, creates a highly diverse and dynamic fishing landscape. These ever-changing waters concentrate fish in natural feeding zones and around structure, making it especially productive for giant peacock bass during the low-water months.
